Announcement: Covid-19 – Message to our members and partners

Dear partners, dear members of the Advisory board,

due to evolving situation with the COVID-19 and the travel restrictions imposed by the different European countries,
the management board of the project decided that we cannot maintain the physical General meeting in Copenhagen in May.
We therefor will hold the meeting in a videoconferencing mode, so please keep the 2 days reserved from other activities to join the virtual meeting.

One advantage in organising a virtual general meeting is that more people from your institutions can participate in specific targeted meetings (for example for a specific Task where an expert of your institution participates but would not had made sense to join a full 2 day physical meeting).

We will set up with the project board an adapted plan for the meeting to fit the video conference mode.
A proposal will be send to you as soon as possible.

Geneva International Motor Show canceled

Due to the new COVID-19 restrictions, the Geneva International Motor Show 2020 will not take place. The Swiss Federal Government prohibits all gatherings of more than 1000 persons. So, the AVENUE presentations (VIP day and conference days) will unfortunately not take place.

Announcement: Transport Minister inaugurates the self-driving bus in Aalborg East

On 5 March 2020, Aalborg East will write Danish history. The first pilot project with self-driving buses on Danish roads will be inaugurated here, and Transport Minister Benny Engelbrecht will be there to cut the cord.

In December 2019, after almost 5 years of planning and application process, permission was granted for the first time in Denmark to conduct trials with self-driving buses. Since then, Holo has been busy with tests, setting up digital infrastructure and more tests, and on 5 March, together with Aalborg Municipality, Holo will open the route to the public.

“We’ve been working long and hard to get everything in place for the big day, when we roll out for the first time on Danish roads. The paperwork for approval is one thing, but preparing the route itself and setting up the digital infrastructure is another. Our operators, who will have their daily work in and around the buses, are looking forward to hitting the streets and showing what the self-driving buses can do” says CEO Peter Sorgenfrei from Holo.

Event: H2020 Avenue – Mid-Term Review

On Friday January 31th, 2020, the mid-term review of the AVENUE project took place at the European Commission premises in Brussels.

During the review, the consortium presented the work conducted and the major results obtained during the first 18 months of the AVENUE project and answered the questions by the reviewers and representatives of the European commission.

The consortium is thankful to the European Commission, the Project Officer and the Reviewers for the constructive input, the fruitful discussions and the helpful recommendations on how to proceed and to improve in the upcoming period of the project.

Snart kan du møde Torben i Smartbussen i Aalborg Øst

Det første selvkørende forsøgsprojekt på dansk jord har nu fået den endelige godkendelse fra transportministeren. Operatør Torben Nyman er begejstret over snart at kunne byde beboerne i Aalborg Øst velkommen ombord på SmartBussen.

Nyheden om transportministerens underskrift på en bekendtgørelse har været længe ventet for Aalborg Øst-beboeren Torben Nyman. 

Han blev ansat for over et år siden til at være operatør i den selvkørende bus, som skal køre på Astrupstien i hans eget nabolag, men fordi godkendelsesprocessen har trukket i langdrag, har han indtil nu arbejdet på skift i Holos søsterprojekter i Göteborg og Oslo. Her har han opnået en driftserfaring, som må siges at være temmelig unik: Han har nemlig arbejdet over 900 timer i og omkring de selvkørende busser.

Finance, experience, and network. Product Development Lead Pernille Lytzen points out the benefits of being part of a Horizon 2020 project.

The Ministry for Higher Education and Research in Denmark is currently running an informative campaign for businesses about EU’s Horizon 2020.

They interviewed Pernille who talks about the benefits of being part of the Horizon 2020 project AVENUE, and how Holo has increased their knowledge and network through the consortium.

AVENUE is a project showcasing autonomous solutions in urban areas over the course of four years with Copenhagen (Nordhavn), Geneva, Lyon and Luxembourg as demonstrator cities. You can read more about the AVENUE Project and the Danish demonstrator site in Nordhavn.

Announcement: HS PF awards perspective, teaching and research prizes

The “Research Excellence Award” was awarded to Pr Guy Fournier. He is part of the management team of the AVENUE project, which integrates autonomous minibuses into the public transport system of different cities in a large field trial and advances technical solutions.

The IAF’s Research Excellence Award in the Professors category was accepted by two individuals. First, Professor Dr. Guy Fournier from the Department of Industrial Engineering (WI) was honored. “Guy moved to Pforzheim more than ten years ago, where he has been instrumental in the internationalization of the WI department and the Faculty of Engineering. His international networking is essential for his research, in which he is particularly driven by sustainable mobility. He supports municipalities across Europe in energy and mobility issues,” said laudator Dr. Tobias Viere, Professor of Energy and Material Flow Analysis. An outstanding achievement in this area is the successful acquisition of an EU project with a total volume of 20 million euros and 16 partners from seven countries. Guy Fournier is part of the management team of the AVENUE project, which is integrating autonomous minibuses into the public transport systems of various cities in a large-scale field trial and advancing technical solutions. The knowledge gained will be the basis for recommendations on the further development of transport for governments and cities in Europe.

KEOLIS OFFERS PUBLIC AV SHUTTLE SERVICE IN LYON

On 15 November in Lyon, France, transport operator Keolis, Lyon’s public transport authority SYTRAL, autonomous shuttle maker Navya, and fleet orchestration provider Bestmile introduced a new autonomous shuttle service connecting the Décines Grand Large tram station (line T3) and the Parc Olympique Lyonnais stadium. The service includes two autonomous shuttles and is the result of Lyon’s efforts to address the challenges of integrating autonomous last-mile connections into the public transport network.

Les villes de Genève, Luxembourg et Copenhague ont aussi été retenues comme sites pilotes.

Réunion plénière du projet AVENUE H2020

Mobile Thinking raconte les 3 journées de la réunion plénière du projet AVENUE H2020

Le lundi 7 octobre, le premier jour d’une réunion plénière de trois jours sur le projet H2020 AVENUE s’est tenu à l’Université de Genève, Battelle. Les 16 partenaires étaient tous présents et nous formions un groupe d’environ 35 personnes travaillant dans le même objectif «Donner aux véhicules autonomes les moyens d’évoluer vers une nouvelle expérience urbaine».

Le deuxième jour de cette réunion plénière était dédié aux passagers. En termes d’exigences des utilisateurs, mais également de services destinés à accroître l’acceptation des véhicules autonomes par la population.
